George Reilly is working a typical day at his car mechanic shop when his estranged alcoholic brother shows up and tells him that he needs to come back to the family home. Their third brother, Philip, has a problem, much like their father before them...a supernatural problem. A demonic problem that the family must confront once again.
The Demon Disorder is a very Australian horror flick, so if accents throw you off like they do for me, you'll be asking, "Wait, what did they just say?" Subtitles are definitely your friend, especially if you tend to watch films most at 1.2x speed like I do. For this one, though, I had to watch at normal speed to catch the dialogue…

"Every day I look in the mirror, I see a monster. As it grows, I disappear."
Killer practical effects from Steven Boyle, a contender for the best we've had this year for sure. Some gross gory body horror that had me squirming. Some scenes at the beginning made me think of the alien entity in Life, nightmare fuel stuff. It's so sad though because it deserved a better story and characters, except for the impressive effects I was struggling to keep an interest for it. There's a twist about the father that was done cleverly though, I was expecting one thing the whole runtime but then the flashback surprised me. It has atmosphere, it looks good and the acting is passable. Long live practical effects!

it’s like they mixedevil dead, when evil lurks and alien in a blender + sprinkled in enough freaky body horror to get you squirming in your seat. practical effects team went crazy. if you liked that third act in alien: romulus then you might enjoy this one too. australia make a normal movie challenge (impossible)

The Demon Disorder is a little mumblypegs nonsense exorcism movie that's largely just murky and confusing... but at least it does something different. Even if that something largely feels like the demo real for a practical effects guru.
It's about brothers who go home something something their dad... who is played by John Noble who I'm sure was on set for a day. Maybe two. Something something one of them gets possessed by Meatwad from Aqua Teen Hunger Force... something something... oh gross. That's nasty! Do it again!
Yeah, for such a simple premise, I was weirdly lost at times. Shouldn't have been... it's a demonic infestation exorcism film. Doesn't usually require rocket science but there was something in the…

This Shudder original follows three brothers that are reunited to fight the demon from their past that has come back to terrorize them.
I wouldn't say this film itself was that great but it does have some great freaky, grody, gruesome body horror effects and is worth checking out for that in itself.

if they didn’t have enough daddy issues, having your dad coming back to try to possess one of you, is grounds for group therapy for life

The sins of the father and bad kangaroo meat cause three brothers to spontaneously give birth to various snot covered homunculi squid snails with a craving for chicken. I quit paying attention early on so I may be shaky on the plot. Works as a showcase for the practical fx team but runs way short of anything worth being called cinema. Zero engagement with this one. Pretty to look at but not much else.

I’m never eating chicken again
For what it’s worth, the practical effects in this film are great. They’re great and absolutely disgusting. Within the plot you follow 2 brothers, one of their sons and their elderly father. An infection takes place that becomes a physical thing and it’s OUT THERE.It adds really nothing new to the “infection/possession” genre plot wise, but I will say, it’s got an absolutely horrendous “villain” per-say and a scene involving an armpit that makes me sick thinking about it.
I’d definitely recommend this to anyone that appreciates practical body horror and a love for the total weird.

The practical effects are indeed top notch. All gooey and gross with equally top notch sound design to match. Last 20 mins the effects were on full display. Everything else was meh at best. 80 min film felt closer to 2 hrs.
